The Asia Insurance Building, a former office building built in the early 1950s, was designated a conservation status by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore in April 2007. The Asia Insurance Building, a key landmark in Singapore’s financial district, was planned to be transformed into a luxurious six-star hotel, Ascott Raffles Place by the Ascott Group. Significant structural enhancements were required to bring the structure up to contemporary standards and support the new vision for the property.

Structural enhancements included slab strengthening to increase the ribbed slab capacities to accommodate the increased floor loads. Fibrwrap Construction Pte Ltd designed and completed the slab strengthening works from the 3rd to 20th storeys using the TYFO® Fibrwrap® Systems meeting the design requirements specified by the structural consultant while having no significant impact on the existing structural and architectural design.

The structure was successfully transformed into a luxurious hotel after meticulous strengthening works and conferred the URA Architectural Heritage Award in the year 2009.
