The former Old Ford Factory, located at Bukit Timah Road was the first motorcar assembly plant in Southeast Asia. Ford Motor Works, established in Singapore in 1926, moved its Anson Road factory to the new Ford Factory at Upper Bukit Timah Road in October 1941. The Preservation of Monuments Board gazetted the Old Ford Factory as a national monument on 15 February 2006. Thus, maintenance was very critical for this art deco heritage masterpiece. To preserve this monument, it was important to enhance its durability and strengthen the structure without affecting the building’s architecture.

After a systematic structural analysis, the TYFO® Fibrwrap® System fits in nicely with the heritage requirement due to its advantages minimal intrusiveness and ease of installation. The entire roof slab of this building was strengthened by wrapping the structure using the TYFO® Fibrwrap® Systems to enhance the capacity.

The total strengthening work to the entire slab at the Former Ford Factory was carried out successfully in less than five months.
