The Fort Canning Service Reservoir had to undergo the construction of new inlet and outlet pipelines to replace the existing pipes. Upon inspecting the existing pipeline, it was noted that the two inlet pipes leading to the inlet tower, which were preserved, had encrustations. This build-up affects the efficiency of water flow and if left unattended, could result in leaks and pipe rupture. PUB asked for the rehabilitation of these pipes, which was linked to the new pipes being installed.
The contractor selected the TYFO® Fibrwrap® System, which is approved by PUB as a suitable material for lining potable water pipes, for the rehabilitation and strengthening of the pipes. The rehabilitation process included the removal of encrustations through grinding and scraping, cleaning, and the application of the TYFO® Fibrwrap® System internally. Careful planning, the use of appropriate tools and equipment, and the involvement of experienced personnel were critical for the successful execution of the work and ensuring the safety of all workers involved.
In addition to providing corrosion protection and increased durability, the TYFO® Fibrwrap® System enhanced the working pressure of the pipes and created a smoother internal surface to improve the efficiency of water flow.
