The timber trellis at a private residential bungalow along Queen Astrid Park had been badly damaged by termites until its stability has been compromised. If nothing is done to arrest the stability issue, the structure is bound to collapse. The owner was initially proposed two options by their renovation contractor, i.e., ether to replace the timber trellis or reinforce it at the damaged area by steel.
Both the options were not amenable to the owner, as the first option was costly and time consuming while the second option will change the timber outlook into a steely appearance against the natural green surrounding. Fibrwrap Construction Pte Ltd was approached to look into the problem and offer an alternative proposal.
Fibrwrap Construction’s proposal was accepted by the owner, as the finished product will not alter the trellis’ timber appearance, cost effective, shorter completion time and relatively less disturbance. The work entails the removal of the rotten timber, epoxy injection to the timber that were cracked, building back the portions of the removed rotten timber areas and grouting it back to its original shape with expanded clay aggregates, before finishing it to have the timber appearance.
The project was completed to the satisfaction of the owner ahead of schedule, and without to much of a disturbance to all the occupants of the bungalow.
